The Hartland Landfill is still being considered as a site where sewage sludge will be processed. To date we have not seen any impact studies.
The CRD is currently holding an online survey of sewage treatment plant locations for your input here.
Here is a recent complaint to the Fairness and Transparency Advisor.
"Please be advised that I am unable to participate in the current online survey at http://wastewater.fl...tewater-survey/ due to the absence of fairness.
The survey asks the public to make choices based on a number of site selection options for the treatment of liquid waste. Each option however suggests two possible locations for solid waste (sewage sludge) management (often referred to as resource recovery although no mention of how that resource recovery will be achieved). The sites referred to in the survey for solid waste management are Rock Bay and Hartland. The survey suggests that if the Hartland site is chosen at a later date by a presumably separate selection process, the transportation method of solid waste will have further options either by pipeline or vehicle. The final outcome of the transportation scenario and solid waste site location is further complicated should the selection of multiple liquid waste treatment sites be chosen rather than the one site at Rock Bay.
The average person does not possess the mathematical skills required to know the outcome of his survey choices.
It is also simply impossible to earnestly partake in a partial survey without having a full understanding of the complete project and its costs and impacts. It is impossible for a taxpayer to understand the ramifications of his choices in a survey that avoids the identification of future impacts both directly and indirectly associated with his or her choice. The results of such a survey will be inaccurate and misleading.
Without the knowledge of the how a participant’s choice will impact vital subsequent projects, the request to engage in this survey is patently unfair."
